He was bleeding profusely. Instead of receiving immediate care, my mother was told to buy a "registration folder" from a vendor outside for GH₵50, then pay GH₵200 for "emergency processing," and finally GH₵150 for "initial consumables" before a doctor would see him.

This took 45 minutes. My brother lost consciousness while we ran between three different windows making payments.

When I asked to see the official fee schedule, a senior nurse pulled me aside and said, "Brother, if you don't pay, you will wait. Those are the rules here."

I later discovered that Korle-Bu's official outpatient registration fee is GH₵10. The extra charges are being collected by staff members and external touts with impunity. This happens every day. Patients die waiting for "processing fees" that do not exist.

A BBC investigation last year documented the same extortion. Nothing has changed.

Our Demands:

Immediate dismissal of all staff members found collecting illegal fees at Korle-Bu A&E
Installation of visible, publicly displayed official fee schedules at every entry point
Establishment of an anonymous whistleblower hotline for patients to report extortion
Monthly public audits of all revenue collected by the hospital
Target Authority: Minister of Health, Chief Administrator of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital

Signature Goal: 25,000

Target Recipient: Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah (Chief Executive, Korle-Bu)

Every flood season, lives are lost. And every year, politicians point fingers at "drainage challenges" while ignoring the real culprit: industrial waste.

I live at Abosey Okai, near the Odaw River. For the past two years, my family and our neighbors have watched factories upstream release bright green, purple, and black chemicals directly into the river at night. By morning, the water is discolored, fish are floating dead on the surface, and the smell is unbearable.

Children in our community have developed unexplained skin rashes. My neighbor's three-year-old daughter, Nana Ama, was hospitalized last month with a respiratory infection that doctors could not explain. She lives 200 meters from the riverbank.

We reported this to the Environmental Protection Agency in March. They came, took samples, and promised action. Nothing happened. We reported again in August. A junior officer called me privately and said, "Some of these factories have connections. Your petition will disappear."

We cannot wait for the next flood to claim more lives. The EPA must name the companies, publish the laboratory results, and ensure prosecutions happen.

Our Demands:

Immediate public disclosure of all EPA water quality tests from the Odaw River (2022-2025)
Identification and prosecution of all companies found violating environmental laws
Installation of real-time water quality monitors at industrial discharge points
Creation of a community-led oversight committee with independent testing authority

The stretch from the Teshie-Nungua Estate junction to the Spintex Barrier has become a death trap. What used to be a 20-minute drive now takes over an hour due to massive potholes that appear after every light rain.

Last week alone, I counted 14 vehicles with damaged tires and rims abandoned on the roadside. A trotro carrying market women from Madina overturned on Tuesday near the Palace Mall trying to avoid a crater that spans the entire lane. Two passengers were hospitalized. This is unacceptable.

The road was last properly maintained in 2021. Since then, we have seen only patchwork repairs that wash away within weeks. The Department of Urban Roads has ignored multiple complaints, and our local assembly member has stopped responding to calls.

Our Demands:

Full resurfacing of Spintex Road from the Teshie-Nunga junction to the Spintex Barrier within 60 days

Installation of proper drainage channels to prevent water accumulation

A published maintenance schedule that residents can hold authorities accountable to

Compensation for commercial drivers who have suffered vehicle damage due to negligence
